Black Dog Adoption Day - MSNBC, USA Today say black dogs are least adopted
WHAT:   Black dogs are generally the last to be adopted and are euthanised in
much larger numbers because people may consider them too “plain”, think
they are menacing, or simply don’t notice them because their dark
color makes them disappear in their kennels. Animal welfare workers
refer to this phenomenon as “Black Dog Syndrome.” MSNBC, USA Today and
The Chicago Daily Herald have recently featured stories about the lower
adoption rates of black dogs in shelters.
Black Dog Rescue is holding their first “Black Dog Adoption Day.” Black
dogs of all shapes and sizes that are available for adoption will be on
hand to visit with the public and information on Black Dog Syndrome
be provided. Free children’s coloring books and Pet Gift Bags will be
given to the first 100 visitors, courtesy of Ridgeview Pet Food and
        Supplies.
Black Dog Rescue is a foster based 501 (c) 3 non-profit animal rescue
organization established in 1998 to address the growing number of black
dogs in area shelters. The organization relies solely on volunteers and
donations. They receive no government funding.
